How to identify your replacement key?
Filing cabinets and lockers most commonly use the 92 series which ranges from 92201-92400, this particular key series is manufactured by Lowe and Fletcher although this is the lock manufacturer many furniture brands in the United Kingdom use these locks.
With some Lowe and Fletcher locks and keys it is worth keeping in mind that there may only be 3 digits printed i.e. 201-400. This range is not limited to filing cabinets & lockers it is also associated with many manufacturers of metal office furniture, some of which can be found below.
Fast Keys provide a wide range of replacement keys, but it is always important to note that the more information you can provide us with the better. It is useful if you can have this information to hand when creating an order. Of course, you may just be creating a duplicate set of keys for someone else, or as a back-up in case of loss. Types of Key Cuts
House Keys
A house key is the most common type of key. There are two main types of house keys. The older form is a lever lock key. These keys are usually slightly bigger and heavier than their more modern counterparts; the pin-tumbler lock key. With a pin-tumbler key there are grooves on both sides of the key blade and it is slightly smaller and lighter. Both types of keys will have an identifying code on the key and a corresponding code on the lock that it is designed to fit. You can use these codes to help generate an order for your replacement keys. Magnum Millenco, Yale Superior and S-Tech keys have the cutting information on a key code card and keys can be cut to code by quoting the A, B and C codes stated on the key code card.
Padlock keys
Padlock keys come in a wide range of sizes and types, from a small basic key, to a complex high security key. The range of manufacturers of padlock include; Abus, ASEC, Chubb, Cisa, Ingersoll, Kryptonite, Master Locks, Mul-T-Lock, to name but a few. A common problem with finding the code for a padlock key is corrosion, as many padlocks are used as part of an outdoor security measure and therefore subject to adverse weather conditions. If you can identify the brand and code of the padlock then there will be no problem in generating a replacement key.
Roof Rack Keys
With all of the outsize goods that people transport as part of a modern busy lifestyle such as bicycles, surfboards, kayaks and even skiing equipment there are also a wide variety of types of roof racks being used. All of the major manufacturers such as Mont Blanc, Handirack and Thule use different types of keys as part of the security measures on these systems. Finding replacement keys for roof racks can be done with the manufacturer, type and code from the lock on the rack system.
Garage Door Keys
There are an extensive range of makes of garage door including those manufactured by Arenson, Crown, Flexiform, Henderson, Lowe & Fletcher, Monarch, Westland and Whitney. This can make finding a replacement garage door key quite a daunting prospect. Our key replacement service will take the hassle out of the order process and once you have identified the make and code of your garage door, ordering a replacement key is simple.
Window Keys
Window keys are notoriously small and as a result are susceptible to damage. Another problem with window keys can be identifying the type of window that the key is required for, as they often do not carry a brand or logo. There are a wide range of window manufacturers and suppliers to choose from including Avocet, Cotswold, Ingersoll, Premier and Shaw. Some window keys have the brand as well as the key codes embossed onto the keys. If the replacement keys you require are for lost keys you can usually locate the manufacturer’s brand and codes on front doors, or patio doors, which have been fitted with the windows.
Mortice Keys
Mortice locks are more likely to be found on older style doors and require a heavy long key, usually with a cylindrical barrel rather than a key blade. Replacing a mortice lock is a labour intensive process and will require woodworking skill to avoid damaging the door. In some cases, if a mortice lock is damaged, the door itself will need replacing. There are many different mortice lock manufacturers with the most common being Chubb, Squire, Union and Yale. Owing to the age of these locks some manufacturers are no longer in operation, but replacement keys can be obtained by using the name of the brand and the code of the key.
Locker Keys
With a vast quantity of lockers deployed in offices, workplaces and schools there are a huge variety of locker keys. Lockers can also come in all sorts of shapes and sizes with a range of types of keys that can be easily damaged or lost. It is quite commonplace within a school, or work environment, where there is a high level of transition, for these types of keys to become mislaid. There are also a large number of locker manufacturers such as Eurolocks, Lowe & Fletcher and Silverline. Wading through the different manufacturer’s websites can be a complicated process, particularly if you are looking for replacement keys for a number of different types of locker. For a straightforward solution that allows you to select all the replacement keys for any locker you may have you can use our one-fit replacement key service.
